LEYLANDII

Leylandii is the king of the hedges.

Leylandii are tough, responsive,a haven for wildlife and do a wonderful job. They grow in most types of soil so long as they are not waterlogged and respond well to annual clipping.
The Leylandii hedges in our pictures are over 20 years old and are growing on very poor soil. We clip them once a year at the end of Oct/Nov. I think you would agree that they have done the job!!

Stocks of Leylandii upto 9ft are usually available during the planting season.

Leylandii should be planted at 2.5ft (75cms) apart irrespective of the size that you buy. It is important to ensure that your trees receive regular and adequate watering during the first year while they establish. Porous pipe (aka:leaky hose or soakahose) is the most effective way to achieve this since the water soaks in properly. If you try to water your plants using your thumb over the end of the hose it's a waste of time as it does not soak in.

These 6ft Leylandii in 15lt pots are the economic option to achieving that all important eye level-privacy without costing a fortune. They already have the height and have been clipped by us so that when they are planted they will quickly fill the gaps. Plant at 2.5ft (75cms) apart and if you are planting in the summer use leaky hose to provide both regular and adequate watering.

These trees are amply 7-8ft high and have been trimmed once so that they form your hedge more quickly. Plant them at 2.5ft apart and no closer and they will rapidly thicken up to give you the privacy that you require. If you are planting in the summer it is important to water them both regularly and adequately and the simplest way to achieve this is by using leaky hose which is cheap, easy to use and very effective.
