If you are planting bare root native hedging plants, then it is vitally important to use tree guards to protect them against rabbits and small species of deer that will chew the bark off them otherwise. Young plants can be particularly susceptible to damage by pests such as rabbits and deer in the colder winter months when other food sources are scarce.
These spiral tree guards are a simple to use tree guard that doesn’t cost the earth. It works by simply wrapping the guard around the tree once it has been planted.
Ideally they should be used together with a bamboo cane that will help support the young plant in its early stages of growth. Bamboo canes will need to be purchase separately here.
Our tree guards are 2ft (60cm) in height which is usually sufficient to stop most animal damage which occurs near ground level.
If you are unsure whether the plants you are buying will be susceptible to mammalian damage, call us on 01252 714552 or email us on [email protected] and we will happily advise whether you should be using tree guards or not.
