This small phormium specimen is known as Phormium Platts Black due to its attractive rich dark red streaked leaves. Each of these Phormiums is growing in a 4lt pot and will make a good shrub addition to any garden.
Phormiums are an excellent striking evergreen especially used where foliage is important to add some architecture to the garden with contrasting and diverse effects. It forms clumps of rigid, leathery sword like leaves that come in a a variety of colours according to the variety of Phormium.
Due to their shape, Phormiums have been considered to add a touch of the subtropical, arid desert or seaside to the domestic garden or planting scheme. It grows well in many situations in fertile soils and is tolerant of sea winds and urban pollution. It is recommended that some form of compost is planted with Phormiums to give them the best start after planting.
