These bare root Lime trees are all standards and create a striking addition to a garden and can be a highly effective way to add a larger feature to the garden. These are a specially selected cultivar of Lime known as Tilia cordata ‘Greenspire’.
These standard Lime trees are all bare root, that is to say that they are field grown and have been lifted from the field for sale without any soil around the roots. They should, therefore, be planted as soon as possible after purchasing to avoid their roots drying out and can only be purchased during the colder months of the year. They are all at least 300cm (10ft) tall although most are in fact taller than that. Trees of this size should be planted using tree stakes and ties to help prevent them from blowing around too much in their first years of establishment until their roots have become properly settled.
Due to the size of these bare root Lime trees, we will need to quote for delivery on an individual basis. Please telephone us to discuss delivery of your plants. Plants can, of course, be collected from our nursery free of charge.
Lime is a traditional tree for planting in formal and semi formal situations. Otherwise known as the Small Leaved Lime (Tilia cordata), it produces small white flowers in July and has green heart shaped leaves which turn yellow in the autumn before falling off. It grows well in various soil types and is an excellent choice for pleaching and also pollards well. Avenues of pleached or pollarded Lime trees are often found in French villages and look highly attractive.
In addition to standard Lime trees, we also supply Limes in a pleached format which are suitable for creating raised hedging screens. More information on pleached hedging available can be found here.
