Pleached Lime hedging create a striking addition to a garden and can be a highly effective way to create a raised screen.
These pleached Lime hedging trees are bare root, that is to say that they are field grown and come dug straight from the field with no soil around their roots. They will, therefore need to be planted as soon as possible after purchasing to avoid their roots drying out and we can only supply them in the colder months of the year. Their stems are 6ft (180cm) tall (once planted) and have no branches below their heads which are 4x4ft (120x120cm). If a particular size of pleached head is required, we can usually create bespoke sizes for customers, just ring us to discuss and we will see what we can do.
Due to the size of these plants, we will need to quote for delivery on an individual basis. please telephone us to discuss delivery of your plants. Plants can, of course, be collected from our nursery free of charge.
Lime is a traditional tree for planting in formal and semi formal situations. Otherwise known as the Small Leaved Lime (Tilia cordata), it produces small white flowers in July and has green heart shaped leaves which turn yellow in the autumn before falling off. It grows well in various soil types and is an excellent choice for pleaching and also pollards well. Avenues of pleached or pollarded Lime trees are often found in French villages and look highly attractive.
These pleached Lime hedging trees should be trimmed annually to retain their shape and to encourage them to thicken out.
Pleached Lime trees can be planted singularly or in avenues according to your planting plan. We recommend that these trees are planted using stakes and ties to help support them during their first few seasons until their roots have become properly established.
