Sometimes when planting a hedge, it’s placed next to a fence by default. However, you may choose to plant hedges adjacent to fencing because, when combined, they provide several great benefits.

A hedge can change the look and feel of your garden completely. It can add colour and texture, create a natural barrier, and complement other plants in your garden.

Hedges provide an attractive and natural boundary to a garden. A mature hedge brings privacy, reduces noise from neighbouring properties and roads, creates shelter, captures pollution, attracts wildlife, and serves as a beautiful backdrop for other flowers and plants.

We read from time to time about disputes between neighbours over conifer hedges. Such disputes don’t always involve Leylandii but it usually gets blamed anyhow! Such behaviour is inexcusable and of course it is the owners who are at fault, not the trees.

Follow the Golden Rules of Watering in the year of planting to allow your hedge to flourish – it’s easy! Container grown plants can be planted all the year round and establish quicker than field grown plants.

All hedges whether they are conifers, laurels (or for that matter privet, beech, yew or box) require to be looked after in a proper manner, and that means clipping them annually.
