Description
These small leylandii hedging plants are a smaller and more cost effective way to plant a leyland cypress hedge if you have time to wait for it to grow a little to give that all important eye level privacy. These plants are all 2-3ft (60-90cm) in height from the top of the pot. They are a smaller version than some of our bigger plants for those that can wait for them to grow and thicken up, but this is reflected in their price which makes them extremely affordable if you are looking to plant a substantial distance hedge.
Leylandii are a fast growing, popular evergreen conifer and these plants will put on 2-3ft (60-90cm) each year if left untrimmed and so it will not take long for these plants to produce a Leylandii hedge at the required height to give eye level privacy. They are often regarded as the top plant for privacy hedging if a cost effective thick screen is required in a short timeframe.
Once the plants have reached their desired height, we recommend that it be trimmed at that height which will both encourage side growth and restrict upward growth to a manageable amount. A leylandii hedge needs to be trimmed annually in the spring or autumn.
Leylandii hedge plants should be planted 2ft (60cm) apart to create a good sized hedge.
If they are planted during the drier summer months, they must be properly watered in their first year to ensure that they establish properly. This is best done using leaky hose which is cheap, easy to install and very effective.
